Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about buying, selling and using Wovino.

Getting started
What is Wovino? +
Wovino is Switzerland's peer-to-peer wine marketplace. We connect private sellers and buyers of fine wine — without holding inventory or handling payments. Think of it as a trusted meeting place for wine collectors.
Do I need an account to browse? +
No. Browsing, searching and saving wines is completely free and requires no account. You only need to sign in (via email code) to bid, buy or list a bottle.
How do I create an account? +
Click "Sign in", enter your email address, and we'll send you a 6-digit code. Enter the code and you're in — no password needed. If it's your first time, your account is created automatically.
Is Wovino available in my language? +
Wovino is fully available in French, German, Italian and English. You can switch language at any time using the language selector in the navigation bar.
Buying wine
How do I buy a wine? +
For fixed-price listings, click "Buy now" and confirm your intent. For auctions, place a bid. In both cases, the seller must confirm availability before contact details are exchanged.
How does the auction system work? +
Our auctions use proxy bidding: set your maximum and the system bids incrementally on your behalf. If a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes, the auction extends by 5 minutes to prevent sniping.
When do I see the seller's contact details? +
Only after the seller confirms the transaction. Until then, all personal information is hidden. This protects both parties.
How do I pay the seller? +
Payment is arranged directly between buyer and seller — bank transfer, cash on pickup, or any method you both agree on. Wovino does not process payments.
Selling wine
How do I list a bottle? +
Sign in, click "Sell a bottle", and either scan the label with your phone camera to auto-fill the form, or search our catalogue. Choose a fixed price or auction format, add photos, and publish.
Do I need to be approved to sell? +
No special approval is required. Sign in with your email and you can list immediately. Listings go live straight away; our team reviews any listing that gets reported and can suspend it.
Is there a fee for listing? +
No. Listing is completely free. There is no subscription, no listing fee, and no premium placement. The only fee is 8% charged to the buyer on completed transactions.
What happens when someone buys my wine? +
You receive a notification and confirm availability. Once confirmed, both parties receive each other's contact details to arrange payment and delivery directly.
Fees & invoicing
What does Wovino charge? +
A single 8% service fee, invoiced to the buyer once a transaction is completed. Sellers pay nothing.
How is the fee invoiced? +
Wovino generates a PDF invoice to the buyer after the order is marked complete. Payment is due within 30 days by bank transfer to Wovino.
Are there any hidden costs? +
None. No subscription, no listing fees, no premium placement, no advertising charges. We earn 8% on completed deals — that's it.
Trust & safety
How do you keep the marketplace trustworthy? +
Listings go live immediately, but our team reviews any listing that gets reported and can suspend it. Sellers build a reputation through ratings after each completed transaction, and abusive behaviour can be reported and acted on.
What if a deal goes wrong? +
Both parties can open a dispute through the platform. Our community team reviews each case and mediates a resolution.
Where is my data stored? +
All data is hosted in Switzerland and processed in compliance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG / nLPD). We never sell personal data.
Still have questions?
Our team responds within 24 hours, in all four languages.
